The Illuminate Project: Sacred Threads - Stories we almost forgot

Illuminate: Sacred Threads – A New Chapter

I’m so excited to share the next phase of my community arts project: Illuminate: Sacred Threads.

This programme continues my journey of exploring how creativity can connect us, heal us, and give voice to stories that might otherwise be forgotten.

  • Running from 28 September 2025 to 8 February 2026 at Attenborough Arts Centre, Sacred Threads will bring people together through a series of 12 free Sunday workshops (12–4pm).

At its heart, this project sits at the intersection of faith, art, and mental health. It is designed especially with Muslim communities in Leicester in mind, but welcomes people of all backgrounds to take part. The workshops are about creating a safe and nourishing space where we can explore memory, culture, and identity through hands-on making.

Over the months, we’ll be diving into four different artforms:

  • Zine-making – bringing everything together into a collective, self-published archive
  • Embroidery – using stitch as a way to tell stories in thread
  • Printmaking – carving and repeating patterns as echoes of memory
  • Ceramics – shaping clay as vessels of personal and cultural fragments

The workshops are designed in three-session blocks, and participants are asked to commit to at least one full block so we can grow together in the process. Materials are provided, no experience is necessary, and the sessions are family-friendly.

The project will culminate in a co-created exhibition launching from April 2026, celebrating the voices and creativity of all those who took part.

For me, Illuminate: Sacred Threads is not only about making art, but also about creating a space where stories are shared, wellbeing is nurtured, and communities feel seen.

Booking is essential. If you’d like to join us, please get in touch at parablesoflight11@gmail.com

The workshops will soon be released via our Eventbrite Profile: Parables of Light
