Port of Refuge: A Sanctuary in Art
In the quiet spaces between loss and guidance, between need and provision, “Port of Refuge” was born. This artwork draws its heart from the verses:
“Did He not find you an orphan and give you refuge? And He found you lost and guided [you], and He found you poor and made [you] self-sufficient.” (Surah Ad-Duha, 93:6–8)
These words have long been a source of solace for me, echoing the many moments in life when I have felt unmoored - only to find unexpected grace, direction, and strength in the most tender ways.
At the centre of the piece is the Tree of Life, its intricate branches symbolising God’s infinite bounties - vast, all-encompassing, and abundant. Though its fruit seems just out of reach at times, it serves as a gentle reminder that provision is always near, even when unseen. The archway, inspired by Islamic architecture, marks the passage to spiritual refuge and eternal peace, offering a threshold into the realm of Divine mercy
Above the arch, the tree and its colourful droplets mirror the promise within the verse: a place of shade, rain, and sustenance. Each element was carefully chosen to reflect both vulnerability and hope, embodying the reassurance that no matter how lost, orphaned, or in need we feel, there is a refuge prepared for us.
A Personal Reflection
This piece is deeply personal. As a full-time carer for my son, I have lived through seasons of profound uncertainty, navigating the complexities of his needs while holding onto hope. There have been many days when I have felt utterly lost - emotionally, physically, and spiritually drained. But time and again, I have been met with moments of clarity and guidance that could only have come from the Divine.
The verse “And He found you lost and guided you” strikes a particularly deep chord with me. It feels as though these words were written into the very fabric of my life - an ongoing testament to God’s mercy and care, even in our most fragile moments. Creating “Port of Refuge” became an act of remembrance and trust, a prayer that God continues to guide and sustain me, and all of us, in the face of life’s trials.

I am humbled to share that limited edition prints of “Port of Refuge” will be released soon, each hand-embellished with delicate gold leaf to mirror the shimmer of the original. My hope is that this piece brings you the same sense of solace and spiritual grounding that I experienced while creating it.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Whether you are in a season of seeking or have found your refuge, may this artwork be a reminder that you are always being guided and held with mercy.
